In 2006 a group of Wallingford residents created a community art project at the intersection of 49th and Burke. Visible from Google earth (see right), this 40 foot (or so) diameter lady bug sprawls brightly over a yellow flower blossom.
Its vibrant red, yellow, green and black features bewilder most non-native motorists and protect the intersection from inattentive speeders. Once a summer, on a Saturday morning in July, the locals collaborate on the annual repainting, blocking the intersection off and cleaning the roads.
